NASA Artemis Social Media

@NASAArtemis accounts

I supported the launch of @NASAArtemis on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter in 2020 (via aggregation of existing accounts) and support the accounts as a content creator, campaign team member, and post approver. The accounts have grown tremendously since with millions of followers across the platforms.

Highlighted skills: pitching; writing for social; image selection and editing; brand strategy; campaign supervision

Here are some of my favorite campaigns…

#NASAMoonKit

I helped plan and pitch the idea for the #NASAMoonKit campaign, designed to engage the global public with Artemis I. Both efforts were created to engage the global public with Artemis I in a way that was interactive, easy, and accessible for anyone with access to social media accounts, without leaving home. Early in the pandemic lockdown, we asked the world, “What would you pack for a trip to the Moon?”

I worked on the flat lays and photography for NASA’s example Moon Kits and worked on visual products throughout the campaign—pictured left in an Instagram story posted by @NASAArtemis is my personal Moon Kit!

#NASAMoonSnap

Following on the success of the #NASAMoonKit campaign, #NASAMoonSnap blew the prompt for the public wide open. We asked the world to, “see, hear, and experience all of your Moon-inspired content — your Moon photographs, your Moon music, your Moon recipes, your Moon nail art, your Moon makeup tutorials. The sky is not the limit!” We collaborated with Jack Black on a promotional video and shared user submissions during Artemis I mission coverage.

Artemis I Purposeful Passengers

I helped plan and pitch the idea for a campaign to let the public help NASA name the “moonikin” flying aboard the uncrewed Artemis I mission to the Moon. We provided the public with a range of options and held a bracket style competition on social. We tried to remain unbiased during the competition, but were thrilled when they selected the name Campos to honor Arturo Campos, one of the engineers key to bringing the Apollo 13 crew home safely. As a Mexican-American engineer in the Apollo era, Campos’s story had never been truly highlighted or appropriately honored by NASA in the past. Our team was inspired to create an extensive range of spin off campaigns and projects including a comic book and social media takeover. All products were built in both English and Spanish. I provided creative direction on a post card campaign to promote the comic and served on the core team throughout these campaigns.

Please note: All samples on this page are shown to illustrate projects I have supported as a NASA contractor and member of the NASA HQ Artemis communications team. As with all NASA products, all work is collaborative and credit belongs to the excellent communications teams across the agency. All images are from NASA public assets.
